About us

We’re located in the coastal town of Bakio, a locality considered as the birthplace of txakolina wine in Bizkaia. Its geographic situation, on the shore of the Bay of Biscay, but at the same time protected from it by the south-facing hill-sides, has provided to the grape from these vineyards a pronounced personality throughout the years.

The continuous research and trials we perform lead us to be one of the wineries with the highest number of elaborated references. For example, we are pioneers in products such as the barrel fermented txakolina, the sparkling wine "apardune" and the distilled spirits. Currently, Doniene Gorrondona is the only winery within the ones associated to the Denomination of Origin of Bizkaian Txakolina (regulation of quality and geographical origin) that has its own distillery.

Doniene Gorrondona has backed since its foundation the creation of a sustainable project, in total respect for the environment. Our believe is that the friendlier we are with nature, the products offered by it (our case the grape) will be of greater quality. That is the reason why our work dynamic is governed by the following parameters; in 2010 we started to carry out a series of measures including the use of cork from certified farms instead of the chemically treated ones, the recovery of 13% of cardboard, and the selection of barrels from cooperages with certificates of forest sustainability. Now we are going one step further, initiating a project that aims to create a collection of our own scents, based on the ecology of our vineyards.
